Bitcoin QT and Bitcoin Core Wallet question regarding chronology of backups with differing passphrases.
I have a chronological series of backups with differing passphrases.
When loading an earlier version of a backup wallet.dat file, will the corresponding passphrase still work?
The backups were made using Bitcoin QT wallet version 0.7.1 and I am loading them into Bitcoin Core version 0.14.1
The wallet is locked and not accepting what i believe to be the passphrase or multiple other versions of it or other possible earlier passphrases.
As a workaround I have loaded previous backups to try with older passphrases, also not accepting passphrases.
So the slightly longer history of this problematic wallet.
The latest backup file I made for the wallet (encrypted) was compressed using Mac OS and stored online. When unzipping using Mac OS Archive Utility i get the error message “Unable to expand “FILENAME” into “FOLDER” (Error 32 – Broken pipe.) The file will still load into Bitcoin Core wallet but with the error message “Error reading wallet.dat! All keys read correctly, but transaction data or address book entries might be missing or incorrect.”
The Bitcoin Core wallet then takes over an hour to rescan the wallet and opens successfully with all the correct history and balance intact.
Is anyone else experiencing similar passphrase problems?
