I am retired and I have $ 30,000 in savings plus a small pension. I live in a small house and I have no debts. But I live well with my small pension and my $ 30,000 in savings. I don’t get it why some people say the people need like $ 300,000 or $ 500,000 for retirement in order to survive. That’s all balderdash in my opinion as I live well in my situation. I can afford all my bills and I live a very content life. I go out and visit my children and grandchildren from time to time out of state as well. You only need $ 300,000 or $ 500,000 saved if you want to live a life of luxury in my opinion. Like travel around the world or dine in expensive restaurants frequently or buy a very expensive car. But if you don’t need these things, life is pretty comfortable is you have like $ 30,000 like me and a pension. So long as you don’t have any major debts, then life on what I have is quite comfortable. So I don’t get why some people are always saying that you need to have a number in the 6 figures as your savings in order to survive. It’s simply not true.
