My MultiBit wallet has gone on something that can be described as something of a hissey fit. Refusing to recognise the password (which is correct, and has been the same password for years and which I have stored in a password store anyway) and refusing to restore from my backup files (*.zip.aes files), I re-installed the software (0.5.1) with no luck, I reinstalled the old software (0.4.1) with no luck either.
I then found this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1866008.0 (a discussion about how to generate the list of private keys associated with your Multibit Wallet words – again, to no avail).
I then saw that you can simply set up a wallet with the same wallet words in Simple Bitcoin Wallet and BreadWallet – but this simply didn’t work either, they both crashed half-way through syncing with the Bitcoin network.
I am 99.9% sure that the password is correct, that the wallet words which I archived in my password vault were all correct also. But none of the solutions I have tried are working.
I tried the mbexport command line tool which, again, didn’t work, throwing up a hissey fit of its own about an unknown module.
I’m at the end of my tether here, not very happy with the MultiBit devs, I have to be honest. Does anyone have any advice about any other routes I could explore here. I’m on MAC OS and all my Bitcoin was tied up in that wallet.
Thanks,
