I have a stored procedure that times out intermittently. I have checked the overall system resource usage and since the stored procedure is relatively light I do not think it is a resource issue.
I think it might be parameter sniffing issue. I have checked the plan cache but since the issue happens over night and by the time I check the cache in the morning the stored procedure would have recompiled for whatever reason and I am not able to retrieve the plan. I am thinking of writing a script that will run in a job which queries sys.dm_exec_procedure_stats and as soon as the SP hits the timeout duration dump the plan into a table.
People say using extended events to capture plan is expensive other than the way I mentioned above and hope to get lucky how else would we capture plans ?
