Obviously it goes against tradition, but my girlfriend thinks the tradition is sexist and doesn’t like it. But then she was sad because we wouldn’t be “Mr and Mrs Samename” and it would be hard to decide what to name children when we hopefully have them. So she asked me to take her name. She’s always doing things to make me happy so I decided to do it, and I’m not going to give my children hyphenated names, that’s child abuse. She mentioned it in wedding invitations to avoid confusion, except my dad doesn’t understand and accused us of disrespecting him. We told our parents before the invitations, but he says he thought we were joking. My Mom said she admires my girlfriend for standing up to tradition, but my dad suggested he might not come to the wedding. My girlfriend says that he’s just sexist, and not to worry about it and that he will come, or he’s a bad father and I shouldn’t want him there. Half of my friends, some even women agree with my father though. Is it disrespecting my father.
