I have recently installed Ubuntu 18.04.1 on my new lenovo x1c3.

Now, the sound on the laptop speakers is fine, but a little low. However, the sound coming from the headphone jack is insufficient. It is very low, and when i turn it all the way up the sound suddenly gets really bad with a lot of distortion occuring especially with lower frequencies.

I played with the alas mixer. distortion went away when i put the headphones in the green area, but then it was very low in volume again. and as i raise master volume, the headphone volume would get cranked up automatically again, and hence the sound would be screwed.

The sound on the headphones has better but not flawless quality when the volume is down. but occasional popping and distortions still show up. When i boot with windows 10 the issue doesnt occur.

Any advice?
